Long Bay trip On Monday 7th of April year 7 and 8 students from rooms 9 and 10 went by bus on a trip to Long Bay Regional Park to learn about survival skills in the wild.
Once we arrived at the park, we assembled
under the shelter, and Sandra who was a park ranger introduced the rest of her team to us.
Sarah, james and Maureen along with Miss Atuahiva and Tevita accompanied my group on our hike to Green Bay. Sarah showed us how to read a map, and we got to pick where we wanted to go. Students took turns at being a team leader, and a tail charlie(person at end of line)
Next we found ourselves pitching up tents on our own and learning how to be safe when using a hobo stove. The exciting part was frying my own sausage (YUMMY)
After lunch it was off to make a make shift stretcher, using two pieces of long wood and four jumpers.
Each of us had turns pretending to be injured. Morag, who is a park ranger , showed us how to carry the stretcher. It wasn’t easy. The hardest part was actually carrying the patient without dropping them.
Finally the bus arrived to pick us up. I sat on the bus tired and weary from my day, thinking about what I learned, with my eyes closed all the way back to school.
